Jayesslee (link) are two twenty-three year old identical twin sisters, Janice and Sonia Lee. They are Koreans who are currently living in Australia and are both pursuing music. They do not have an album out (yet), but they have many videos on their youtube channel and are a very talented duo. I think that these two show the human purpose of giving all glory to God. At the beginning and end of their songs they always say "be blessed" and they are not afraid to express their faith. I think that they are a wonderful testimony because of the songs they sing and of the short message they say before their songs. It is also obvious that they have become more popular lately and they are really thankful to God for it because they recognize that their amazing musical talent comes from Him. They reveal the Kingdom of God in a way that shows that God gives everyone a spiritual gift, no matter what it may be, and when we use it to glorify and testify His name, we will be greatly blessed. They also reveal that we can be witnesses anywhere and bless others through anything, in their case, it's through music on youtube.
Discussion Questions:
1. What are your spiritual gifts that God has blessed you with?
2. How can you reach out to others through simple activities?
Wow--good thing both sisters can sing well! :) I'd be interested to see what they could do with their talent if they created their own music, rather than just imitating. It's also interesting to see how, in a globalized world, they can be ethnically Korean, living in Australia, singing CCM music out of Nashville. Seems like there's a kind of unity here, but also something to lament, that expressions of faith are becoming so similar all over the world and no longer reflecting a wide variety of unique cultures.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the voices of these two women are incredible and that their message is important; however I would like to also pull a little out of Kirstin VGR's comment. From what I have heard, and it was only a small portion of what was on youtube, they only did covers of very popular Christian and 'secular' songs. Their voices had a certain color and tone that lends extremely well to that particular...genre. I myself cannot even give it a suitable name and can only describe it as 'pop'. What I would love them to do was to expand their talent as well. I'm not suggesting that they try their hand at death metal, but perhaps write their own songs (the one I heard was a good start) or pick songs that are 'Apocolyptic' and pull away from the sweet nothings that I believe many contemporary Christian songs focus on. The entire bible was not written in C major with the occasional A minor. I am still, however, in awe of the gift God has given them. ^.^
